Similar to the concept of the handcuff covers, these cuff wraps came about trying to make ankle shackles (AKA Leg Irons) more comfortable and practical for longer wear.

Despite having some girls with interest on their own to try ankle shackles (basically handcuffs for legs), every time we tried they were quickly done with it due to the harsh discomfort level. Without any sort of padding it is hard to determine the right tightness to stay on yet not cut off circulation, but no matter what we did they always seemed to slide down and attack tendons eventually. I believe when applied in real government prisoner situations they are over socks and pants to help give some sort of buffer and typically only used for transport security. For BDSM fun however usually most people are wearing less clothing.

I forgot about it for a while, but one reason why my handcuff covers only come in one size is that the shape on ankle shackle latches varies quite a bit more so a cover can't be very tube-like without causing a floppy mess in other areas. So getting back to the problem I thought something based on a protection cuff would be a route. It perhaps makes applying a little slower since more items to attach, but doesn't get in the way of the main shackle functionality. Another problem I concentrated on was finding a way to keep the shackle on the cuff since slipping was an issue even with nothing else on. To prevent sliding I decided to make an exaggerated ridge which worked pretty well, but on the first experiments I was so concentrated on slipping down I only did it to one side. After the first attempt was built I realized it wouldn't take much to push the shackle up off the cuff during use so then proceeded to make ridges on both sides and felt a little silly not doing it in the first place.

The end result seems to work pretty well during testing so far, everyone who has tried them says they make a drastic comfort difference. I think visually they look pleasant as well where more like a nice leather cuff and not just a janky wrap. Since successful on ankles it was natural to go ahead and try them on wrists. They work out well on tiny girls, but with more testing I found that with wrists about 7" or larger it starts to be difficult to use them as there isn't enough space on typical handcuffs. A work around would be to use oversized handcuffs, but those are less common, basically being very similar to ankle shackles with a short connection chain. Less padding could be used to try and make the wraps work with more wrist sizes, however that would conflict with the main point of trying to add more comfort. Similar concern applies to ankle shackles where around 9" ankles is the max size to work with typical ankle shackles and if larger one would need to get oversized versions, AKA Boot-cuff.

So even though they don't work for everything, I'm happy enough with how the cuff wraps turned out to make some batches for further testing. I'll certainly keep an eye out for possible improvements to the handcuff size restrictions. Although I tried to research quite a bit before making my cuff wraps, afterwards I did come across some other places that made some:
Hotbonds went with a more hardware intensive design: http://www.hottbonds.com/
And the Handcuffs Shop went with a lower profile design since it appears more for wrists than ankles: http://www.thehandcuffshop.com/
